Going Digital for weddings, lense speed questions

I am curious if someone could help? I have read about digital and it can kick off a lot of white. In a dark church, would you still use a lense as fast as 1.4 or 1.8?

  Tonya,
Of course! Once all the lights are on, take a hand held meter reading on the bright spots in the church. This will give you a starting point to set your f/stop and shutter speed. But, realize you will have a very shallow depth of field at f/1.4.
If you are doing available light pictures you will need a tripod, and please use a good a shutter release. I would not shoot an alter shot of the Bride, Groom and Priest from the balcony at any f/stop setting below f/8, using a two hundred millimeters. I want all three in focus.
I hope this info helps.
Good Shooting
Doug
