Photography Question

How to get started in Photography

I just recently got a Minolta Maxium 4 and I am very much an amatuer, trying to learn how it operates.I very much have a interest in photography.Nature and landscape is where my heart lies as far as photography.I have a few photographs that I think look really nice but that's just my opinion. Being an amatuer at this i'm not sure if they are that good or not. What would you recommend to one just getting started and in hopes of being pro one day?
Tammy

Go out and practice, practice, practice! Then do it again the next day.
Read as much as you can. Search BP and the internet for all the advice you can get on creating good pictures. Research composition, the rule of thirds, shutter speed and aperture. Go to the library and read all the books about photography. Then go out and practice practice practice... Talk to other photographers. Take a course. And then practice practice practice!!
Good luck on your adventures!

Learn all you can about the equipment you currently own before expanding, and try to stick with one film speed until you can predict, with some degree of consistency, what results you will get from the processor.

Empirical knowledge (that which is gained through experience) will be your greatest asset.
Learn the basics of exposure, composition, depth of field control, and lighting,...and as Diane mentioned,..practice.

Hi Tammy, you want to make money and you are interested in Nature and landscape photography right? I have a few suggestions that might help you. Bring your best "Matted and Framed" works of photo art (most of the time this is Black&White) any size you wish to a coffee shop, Gallery, fair, local art stores or any event going on in your town ask if you can set up a table or display your work to sell, only drawback is they might ask for a commission of sales usually anywhere from 10-50% or they will charge you for space either way you make out in the long run, well figure what you spend for printing, matte, Frame, table costs or fees if any to sell them. I would recommend getting the word out to family and friends about what you would like to start and if they could help you spread the word. That should get you started in being a pro one day or pay the bills a little more than usual. That's the way I would go if I were to shoot nature and landscapes but I want to venture in people and pet portrait photography. Lots of Luck on your new exciting journey and most of all have fun doing it because if you don't 100% enjoy it you won't succeed at it and one more thing "practice a lot" like they all said. Oh, about your uncertainty about your pictures being good or not, "If you think your images are good then there's bound to be a few million people out in the world who just might think so too".
