How to Merge Two Pictures I have the Ulead PhotoImpact 7.0 program for editing, and what I need to know is how to merge two different pictures, one faded in the background. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Terry, Open the two images. Then go to one of the image: select all, then cut and paste it. Then go to edit/fadeout, and select the direction of the fadeout. Then just re-cut the fade-out image and paste into the other picture. Once pasted there, you can also adjust the amount of transparency of the pasted image. If you wish to place the pasted image in the back, then after pasting it. Select all of the background, cut and paste, set transparency and fade that out, if desired. Your layer manager will show both layers, and you can easily select which layer you wish to work on there. Once all is composed the way you like, right click on the image and chose merge all.

hi kip, when you say to cut out, do you mean using the magic wand and draw all around? or is there a much easier, (and probably more obvious way) to do this? thanks

If the entire image is wished to be pasted into the other image, then you can just right mouse click , scroll to "select all", then chose cut. Paste onto the other image, go to edit, and chose a fade-out transisition(like from top to bottom/right to left/diagonal/from center sopt/etc). Then you can also adjust the entire transparency of the fade-out also by clicking on the select arrow at the top of your left side toolbar to select the fade-out layer. Once the layer is selected, then you can adjust the transparency of it by moving the slider in your transparency window at the top of your workspace. If you wish to select just part of an image with-in the picture to cut and paste, then fade-out, I usually do this: cut and paste entire image. Then use the eraser to erase areas you don't want around the image. This way is fast and easier to get a clear detailed break of the image and the background your trying to get rid of. Zoom in when a highly detailed area must be erased, and set your brush size smaller. It is alot easier to do whenn using a graphics tablet/pen, like WACOM; but is possible to do with your mouse. Hope this answers your question.

Hi kip.....Thanks to your help I was able to get everything but I get stuck at one place and that is selecting the background of the first picture (bottom picture) and fade in the top picture for it to appear in the background, does that make sense? Thanks for all your help!!!!! Terry

Do you mean you are having trouble selecting the background of the bottom ? Prior to pasting the other image into the composite, right mouse click, select all in the mouse menu, then "control x", "control v". This cuts the background but places it back in the same place, but on its own layer. Then when you paste in the fadeout image, you can select the layer you wish to be the top layer, and the amount of transparency of each layer.Easiest way to select which layer to work on is to use the layermanager-access panel(just click on which layer you wish to work on, will turn highlighted gray).

If you mean you want to add a frame around an image, then open your "EasyPalette", then click on the "frame gallery", then click on the "+sign" to expand the list. You can chose 2d edge effects, magic effects, 3d classic frames, etc. In the example I chose classic frame, opened the frame gallery, opened the classic gallery, then double clicked on one of the thumbnails of frame types to place that frame around my image.
