Photography Question
Jackie Kuhl

How to shoot ballet scenes?

I am in a portrait photography class and for my final project I am going to take portrait pictures of people doing ballet or posing in their attire. I was wonsering if anybody had any suggestions about what film I should use, some ideas for effective shots, some background or location ideas, or any other ideas or suggestions you all have would be very very helpful. Thanks, Jackie
PS I am thinking about going black and white.

  Jackie,
Jackie,
Since you are doing ballet people, why not shoot on the stage. Talk with the stage manger about stage lighting. If you can add either your own hot lights, or use the stage lights, then you can do some very interesting lighting. Look at “Hollywood Style of Portrait Lighting.” It might give you some ideas. Because you are using hot lights and keep them off the black background. You can use a very strong light from either side to light your subjects.
