Steps to Digital Quality Prints

I would like for you to list about ten steps to getting a quality digital image. From photographing to downloading to a CD. What to do and how to save the file. I am a Professional Portrait Photographer and I am making the transition from 2 1/4 film format to digital. Thanks, Ben Hyman

My advice is don't go to digital for professional work. Not yet anyway. I own some of the best "prosumer" equipment available at the moment, which scans and prints at 1200dpi. That's about 35 million pixels on a 6 x 4 print. My digital camera takes photos at 3.3 million pixels.

An 8 x 10 at 35 million pixels passes my muster. I can still tell it's digital but it's good enough to frame. At 3.3 million pixels, interpolated to an 8 x 10, it's less than magazine quality. I mess around with it, but I certainly wouldn't frame any of the work.

Besides... Unless you're talking dual processor, quad RAID 0 SCSI type super computers, messing around with a 100Mb TIFF file is not my idea of a good time.
