Sigma 12-24mm lens shade petal on pix

Hi,
I am using a new Sigma 12-24mm zoom lens on a new full frame DSLR (Kodak DCS PRO SLR/n camera.

On the shots strictly at 12mm setting, many (but not all) of the shots show the 'silouette' of one of the 'petals' of the permanent lens shade at the middle bottom of the photo (6 o'clock),as if it is including part of the lens shade in the shot, whether or not flash is used.

But some pix with and without flash don't have this... so I'm stumped. Would appreciate any help.

I'm guessing that the shots you took with a smaller aperture (higher f-stop number), show parts of the lens shade.
At 12 mm, the angle of view is EXTREMELY wide. (You even have to be careful not to include your own feet in the photo.)
With wider aperture settings, the lens shade was probably in the frame too, but so out of focus that you couldn't see it.

  Carolina,
Please post an example of your problem. I use a 15 to 30mm Sigma, and have the problem when I am at a high f/stop and at the 15mm opening. When I am shooting I just make sure that I am over framing the subject, and being able to crop to the subject in PS.
Hope these ideas help.
Good Shooting
Doug

Problem solved. Thank you, Bob and Doug for your responses. I called Sigma and the problem, when I looked closer, was only at the 12mm setting with ON CAMERA FLASH..

There was no problem when I attached my Nikon SB 800 (the flash is now a few inches away from the lens. With on camera flash, the flash is so close to the lens, that the part that 'fails to be illuminated' is the dark spot I saw, the petal of the lens shade 'blocking' the light from the ON CAMERA flash, not a pic of the flash petal itself. Whew!

The problem does NOT occur if I am just taking a picture without flash, nor does it occur with a mounted hotshoe flash...

Doug, if you still want the example, email me, because I'm still learning to deal with the Kodak Raw files and their new (to me) Photo Desk software...
