Photography Question

Tamron 200-500 lens vs Sigma 170-500 lens

I can't make up my mind on which lens I should buy for my Nikon FM2, F100 and D70.
1. Tamron(A80)200-500mm f/5.6-6.3 Di Ld IfList price $ 1,454.95
2. Sigma APO ASP RF 170-500 mm f/5-6.3 List price $537.99
My question is: does the difference in price also in paralel with the quality?
Thank you for your help in advance.

The price given for the Sigma is a selling price, not list. List prices are a complete fiction anyway, and should be ignored. The comparison should be of selling prices. I've seen the Sigma advertised as low as $524, but the most reputable dealers (B&H, Adorama) ask $649. The Tamron 200-500 is $879 from these two retailers.

In an "effecient" market, selling price can indicate relative overall quality, but it is not absolute as there can be other factors influencing the price.

The Tamron lens is new, I haven't seen any reviews of it. Some factors that might justify it's higher price: The Tamron is closer focusing than the Sigma (2.5m at all focal lengths v. 3m-3.2m). It also is one of Tamron's "Di" lenses, which are optimized for use on digital SLRs, with coated rear elements to reduce flare/ghosting and designed to produce less light falloff and chromatic aberations with digital sensors than do older lenses designed for use with film.
