Nikon D100 - volleyball pictures in gym I own a Nikon D100 with 2 lenses. Nikon AF Nikkor 28-80mm 1:3.3-5.6 G & Nikon AF Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 G.....I've used the 70-300mm lenses for outdoor soccer in bright sunlight and been happy, but I am not satisfied for indoor volleyball. Help! I've tried changing to aperture priority with the small Fnumber & ISO at 640,800, 1000, 1250 & HI-2. I've not been happy with the results. The photos are too dark and/or grainy when I go to high on the film speed. I think I need another lenses that lets in more light & zoom. Any suggestions. Maybe the best (probably expensive and a 2nd choice (more reasonably priced) Thanks for your help! Judy in Houston, Texas

Have you tried the smaller lens indoors? The bigger lens needs more light and the faster ISO setting is causing the grain...

Yes, I've only used the smaller lens for volleyball - no luck with quality it's either too dark or too grainy when I change to the faster ISO setting.

Only alternative is a larger aperture lens than the f/3.3-5.6 lenses you're using. Since you're currently using the 28-80, a cheap alternative would be the 50 f/1.8. Set to f/2, that's 2-3 stops faster than the 28-80 at f/4-5.6. So instead of ISO 800-1600 you can use the D100's lowest grain/noise setting of ISO 200.
