Canon Digital Rebel problem with internal flash

Has this happened to anyone... I'm really worried about this

I bought a off-camera shoe cord and tried it with a Sunpak "digital flash" that says it is safe for all cameras. I was thinking of buying a Speedlite or some other EOS-dedicated flash but I just wanted to test my new shoe-cord and see if/how it works....

anyways since I did this, it seems that my on-camera flash has ceased to function!! It doesn't pop up in automatic mode, and when I press the "flash button" in manual mode, nothing happens. It does NOT pop up.

I have used non-Canon dedicated flashes in the hot shoe before, briefly, and nothing bad happened...

Did I fry the circuit... how bad is this?

Can I just use the off-camera shoe cord with a EOS dedicated flash... will that work, or ... basically I am very worried and do not know what to do and I do not have time to send the camera away to Canon to look at it, as I have things booked for clients that I have to photograph... :(

ayyyyyyyy what to do!?!?!

Kamila, did you find the solution to your problem yet? I have used the off-camera shoe cord 2 with EOS film cameras and dedicated flash all the time and have no problem. I have not tried other brand's flash though. Just a weird thought: try removing the battery from your camera and put it back and see if it helps.
