Photography Question

Saving photo to cd from photoshop

I shoot film and am a complete novice at computers. I have learned a lot about scanners and photoshop cs since I joined bp in Jan. I typically scan my prints into photoshop and make slight adjustments before uplaoding them. My question is this: when I select an image from my files in photoshop cs that I want to copy to cd - I must be doing something completely wrong because when I open the cd, the entire photoshop page is there along with the palettes, etc. How do I get JUST the image from photoshop to cd?
Any help would be appreciated. I have tried several suggestions and always with the same results.

Thanks,
Marie

save the picture to somewhere in your computer, then burn it from the computer to the disk.

I've tried saving it in Desktop as a new folder and then transfering to cd. When I open the cd, the entire start up panel for adobe photoshop runs then the page with the photo has all of the palletes and command options just like it looks when I work on the image in ps8. Where should I try to save it to?

then you're saving it as the wrong type of file. save it as a jpeg or tiff or targa(something like that)
you must be saving it as a psd or esd, or it could be call a ppd, but anyway some file types are for saving all the layers so you can keep working on it some more and you don't loose all the layers you have.

Thanks for responding, Greg. I am saving it as a tiff file. I always use only jpeg or tiff.

I misunderstood your original question. So you can burn it to a cd, but is it that you're wanting to open the file with something besides photoshop but can't?
I've seen computers that start photoshop when a file that's saved with photoshop is opened. It's something to do with the way photoshop saves it, and also what the computer uses to view visual files. So it's not doing something unusual.
My computer goes to netscape browser if I open a jpeg straight from my hard drive or desktop. But opening with any other program is just a matter of starting it, be it paint brush or picture viewer.
Your computer just goes thru photoshop. If you want to change it, you'll have to look thru control panel or somewhere. I don't know how you would change it.

To change what program views a particular file type in Windows you open the folder where the file is located...then select "View" at the top of the window screen...then select "Folder Options," then high light the file type you want to change...click on "Edit." A new menue opens...select "Edit" again then browse till you find the application you wish to use then select ok. Sometimes you must restart the computer before the change takes effect.

But remember if you do this then you will have to manually open all psd files in PS. This works great for switching other files between similar programs such as musical files.

Hope this has helped.

Save the files you want to copy to CD to a separate folder and copy the folder to CD. As to files that being double clicked cause PS to open - these are Photoshop format files(PSD, EPS)because PS is the sole aplication that can open them. Click on Word file and the Word will open etc

Marie, You must be thoroughly confused by now, but the good news is that you have successfully saved your images to CD, regardless of what file format you used. Images you have saved in Photoshop format will automatically open in Photoshop. However, if you launch many other Photo editing programs you can open a Photoshop file, IF the editing you've done can be understood by that program. You may want to save your photos in a more universal format like jpeg or tif as Gregory suggested, especially if you want to upload to web sites or send to a printer, but for now your CD's are filled with usable, uncompressed files. PLUS, this is a valuable learning experience.
