How to turn a portrait photo into a silhouett

I have a series of portraits that I scanned for a project. I want to be able to turn these portraits in to silhouetts, using Photoshop 7. The photos have a white background and are in color. Does anybody know if this is possible? If it is possible your help will be extremly appreciated.

Thanks,

Aldo Tristan

You need to select the background with the magic wand or pen or brush. Once you have all of the background selected, go "selection"-"invert" then "edit"-"fill"-"selected area" to fill with your default black foreground color. (If you want to get rid of your white background, just hit the delete key before you invert the selection.

another cool way to create silh. is to select the lasso tool. draw the silh where you want it. Select>inverse. Select>feather 140 pix. Finally open levels and move the middle triangle to where you want it. press (control h) on pc to hide the ants.

someone showed me this and I love it
