  Lori- You can take your camera right up and meter off the people faces that are lit by the campfire. Adjust your camera manually to use those settings, then place your camera on the tripod and shoot away. You should be close, but bracketing always helps. To get flames to show up, you need 1/15 of a second or LONGER.
