Photography Question

Mary Bell

2 Photoshop Questions

I recently installed PS CS, having previously had Elements.
Question 1. I downloaded some pictures via Zoombrowser. I opened the file and opened one picture, converted to tiff, made a few adjustments, then saved it. Later I tried to reopen the same picture and got a "Red X warning, stating "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found".
What the heck does THAT mean. In Elements, I converted to TIFF all the time, made the changes, then opened it as many times as I wanted. Then I'd convert back to JPEG for submission purposes. What gives?

Question 2.
Also when I open a picture, it says my picture had an "embedded color profile that does not match the current RGB working space" Embedded: Adobe RGB -----Working: sRGB.
Do I have to set my Canon 10d to sRGB?
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  Hi Mary,
I think you will find that the default setting for your Canon is sRGB, you will have to set it to use AdobeRGB. I believe that this setting gives you a more subdued picture and has a wider range for use in Adobe and it is mainl used by commercial art people. As for you first question I am still working on it. When I open a RAW image in CS I don't get the option to save as a jpeg only psd, png or tif but I can open it OK. It maybe something to do with the file association in Windows. I will post again when I have more info.
Regards,
Del
