shooting in nightclubs


EQUIPMENT USED: nikon d70, sigma 28-300mm zoom, speedlight 800. also--i save as (fine) jpg format.

PROBLEM: images come out soft

QUESTION 1: any way to solve this problem??

QUESTION 2: what would be a good aperture/shutter speed for when people are dancing or moving around on stage?

any help would be REALLY REALLY APPRECIATED : )

  hmmm, THAT'S the problem.

they're focussed in viewfinder. not in final pic.

  before you get your pressure up, pretty common to think somethings in focus in a dark place, and look fine in the viewfinder, but come out in the picture to actually be a little out of focus, even like 6 inches. So if you see anything slightly behind or in front of what you're shooting that looks sharper, there you go.
But there are some things about shooting in a place that can have bright spotty lights mixed in with dark areas that can make pictures come out soft. You can try to minimize them by

i finally got a nikkor lens (solution #1), and adjusted my image quality (solution #2).
