I shoot a lot of sports action and highly recommend the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L lens. It is sharp and fast and expensive, but well worth it if you can afford it. Sorry, but I don't know about the equivalent Sigma lens. I use it indoors and outdoors. Liz

Hi Nick! I use a Quantaray 70-300mm lens for most of my action shots, and as my long lens! I also use a Quantaray 2x teleconverter when needed! Quantaray is made by the same company who makes Sigma lenses so you shouldn't have any problem with either one! You might want to check out www.bhphotovideo.com or www.keh.com, both offer an extensive used equipment listing, this might be a better way of shopping if your budget is a factor!

Nick,I do have the IS but I keep it turned off most of the time for sports action. I like to shoot at 2.8 so my shutter speeds are pretty fast. I do use the 1.4x Canon converter with it but I don't just love it because you lose a stop. Here are a few shots I took the other night. Liz

Hi NickI was looking for a good lens for sports shoots but I found them a little to much for me right now so I got the Canon 55-200 when used on the EOS Digital Rebel, it’s equivalent to an approx, 90-320mm lens.

You can also go for the 70-200 F4L. The lens is actually the slightest bit sharper than the F2.8L and cheaper. I personally have the 2.8L IS and I love the IS but you certainly pay for it. ANother good lens is the Canon 100-400 L F4.5/5.6 which is also very popular. It gives you a whopping 640mm on the 300D and has a push/pull type zoom. I use a 1.4x with it and there is negligible difference with it but I read that the 2x does soften it up quite a bit. You can read up on the 2x differences here: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/lenses/400v400.shtml As a matter of fact go here and see that article and a lot more on some of the lenses you are considering. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/ Michael Kaplan Canon EOS-10D http://www.pbase.com/mkaplan
