  Hi Jonna!

Your question reguarding how many pixels your photo ahould be depends on how big you want your image to be in print.

The width is always the horizontal side, and the height is the vertical. In a landscape mode (wide) photo, the width is the longest, and a photo in portrait mode (tall) the height is longest.

Hope this helps,

Mikki

Thank you very much for your answer Mikki!
I read somewhere here att Betterphoto that to upload an photo to a contest or to the galleri the photo should not be larger then 750x500 pixels. That seem a bit small and some of the photos I have been looking at is larger then that. Does the quality go bad if I upload a larger photo?

I think the general rule is that the photo should be resized to 500 pixels on the short side before uploading. Some photos probably look larger because they are very long but are still 500 pixels on the short side.

If you upload a large photo, the only problem I think you would encounter is "jaggies." You can see an example of it at the bottom of this page:

http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/key=jaggies

BetterPhoto's software will resize your image if you upload one that's too big. And the process of scaling it down might result in jagged edges, especially if you have straight lines in your photo, so it's best to resize your image yourself before uploading.

Just a note... my answer above was for photos submitted to a gallery or to the contest here. You'd need different sizes for printing.
