Underwater Accessory I have a new Canon Powershot A80. I am having sooo much fun with it. I carry it everywhere. Anyway, I'm getting ready for a trip to Hawaii and trying to persuade hubby about purchasing the $200 underwater case (I think it's worth it). I love being able to take MANY pictures and not have to worry about the changing of film, etc. (It's not like I can't afford this...) So, the question is, can anyone provide me with arguments FOR or AGAINST this purchase? OR does anyone know if they rent these cases in Hawaii? OR is it possible to buy some less expensive type underwater camera under $200? any and all responses are welcome thanks, 'amateur of amateurs'

Even thought the WP-DC900 case for the A80 is rated to 130 ft., all it takes is a small piece of dirt, misaligned seal, or missed space with the sealing grease to cause a disastrous leak. Meticulous maintenance of the housing is critical. But if you're up to it, go for it. A big advantage for using a digital camera underwater is being able to adjust the white balance to get true colors rather than the typical blue/green you'd get with a film camera. I've seen the WP-DC900 case available at reputable dealers for about $170. Purpose-built underwater film cameras, like those from SeaLife, Ikelite, or Sea and Sea, start at about $100-125 for a very basic focus-free model. These are rated to ~160 ft, and have the same high maintenance requirement on the case. If you're not up to the maintenance or the risk of ruining your camera, then you can use Fuji or Kodak single use waterproof cameras. These are good to snorkling depths (donw to ~15 ft).
