Photography Question

Twynette Deloris Reynolds

filters

I would like to know why every time I take pictures using a filter, one side of my pictures be dark. I have this feeling that my filter holder (the rings that the filters sit in), places a part. This only happen when I shoot a picture vertical. Also, when using a filter some of my pictures looks very colorful and a crystal clear picture, then at times they look like those glamour shots pictures, and I do not like the glamour shot look. Maybe I got the wrong interrupatation about filters. When I do not use a filter I get great pitures also, but I thought the filters would give me a more professional look. I am using a Minolta QTsi camera and 400 speed film. Thank you for your help.

Nette,

the camera and film speed don't matter.
some filters are graduated, which means one half is darker than the other.it's probably rotating with the lense. don't know which filter you have?
