Merging Photos

I am looking for a program or technique to merge two photos together (for instance - putting a part of one photo in another, so that it looks like they were originally one). I am limited on photo programs (Polaroid Photo Max -- Canon Photo and one called Picture It). Can you help or give me a suggestion.

Thanks

Sounds like you are interested in a stitching program; here is an answer from another question on making panaramas:

"I can recommend either QuickStitch 2.0 ($49.99) or QuickStitch 360 ($69.99), depending on your final application. For more information, please go to www.enroute.com Either program would work fine, QS360 would allow for a complete 360 degree panorama."

If you are more interested in making a composite - for example, your child superimposed to look like he or she is walking on the moon - I believe your Picture It! program should be able to do this. You need the ability to select a particular part of the photo, to copy it, and then to paste it into the other photo. Adobe Photoshop uses layers to accomplish this; if your programs do not offer a similar ability, you may need to get a program like Photoshop or its less expensive sibling, PhotoDeluxe.
