Photography Question

changing a color photo to gray scale on editing P.

My question is this. I took an outdoor shot of a 14 month old little boy, who was in a lot of shade, under a tree. I put it on Paint Shop Pro 8 and lightened it till I could finally see the child's face. For the life of me I couldn't get the color to look good on the editing program and just before hitting the delete button, I though, "wonder what it would look like in black and white or gray tone?" I did just that and was struck on how beautiful this picture became now that the color was gone. It is now one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken. I would like to enter it in a Photo contest, on Better Photo but is this cheating?

Hi I too have paint shop pro 8, If you look at the photos uploaded you will see that alot of them are edited on a program like photo shop. It is o.k. to
change you photo and then enter it in the contest.
