Lens adapters

What is a lens adapter? What is a C or T-adapter? Does it mean that if I have a camera and I lens that doesn’t fit that camera I can buy an adapter to make that lens fit.
What I have is a 35mm Body (Canon Rebel GII to be exact) and I have a found a Carenar lens in may dad's closet. I want to know if I can get an adapter to make the lens fit?

Carenar is not a brand or I'm familiar with, what camera brand/model did your dad use with this lens?

Generally, you can adapt some older manual focus lenses to mount on EOS cameras, but you'll either have to set the aperture manually (and stop-down meter) or you'll be limited to shooting with the aperture wide open. There are cheap/simple adaptors available to mount Nikon and Pentax screw-mount (M42) lenses to EOS. More expensive are adaptors for Leica R and Canon FD lenses since these must incorporate optical elements to maintain proper focus.

T-mount adaptors can only be used with lenses designed for the T-mount. The mount is interchangeable on the lens. T-mounts are available for a wide range of camera brands, including EOS. As above, you will have to set the aperture manually and stop-down meter.

The C-mount is much smaller diameter (just 30mm) than most 35mm SLR lenses. Generally you can find adaptors for using 35mm lenses with C-mount bodies (video cameras for instance), but not for adapting C-mount lenses to 35mm bodies.
