zoom lens to use with maxxum 5 for a beginner

I purchased a maxxum 5 date kit with 28-80 d zoom lens.I am not happy with the results.I upgraded from minolta freedom III point and shoot camer.I purchased maxxum 5 in october and shot a roll on my sons birthday inside our apartment with low light . The picutures were not sharp as I am used to with my freedom III camera.Going over the advise on your forum I purchased a maxxum 50 mm with f 1.7 prime lens and didnt finish the roll yet.I assume it will be sharp compared to my maxxum 28-80 zoom lens.I would like to purchase a zoom lens for my maxxum 5.I usually will take family pictures specially for my Son and family with occasional scenic shots.1st of all what make and 2nd of all what focal lenght should be best suited for my need? I see good things about 28-105 zoom lens. Also if I buy zoom is the picture quality going to be less sharp than 50mm prime lens?
Thanks

Totally right on the prime lenses!...Primes are the sharpest you can get!...The only thing is you can't zoom 'cause you just get one focal lenght!...

A great zoom could go up to a $ 1000.00 usd!...Great pics, very sharp, and very expensive too!...

Go to this website and you might get some background on lenses of any kind!...Do your research and I'll recomend you not to sell your "original" lens till you know if you really need it or not!..

The lens you have right now has a 1.7 wich is very good and suitable for great close ups with practically not even a pinch of depth of field!...I don't know about sharpness!...

Get familiar with the website and see the reviews on cameras, lenses and something else!...
