Photography Question

going digital

I am a semi pro photographer taking photos of childrens sport and want to know if the Canon D30 can produce quality photo to sell. I am curently using the eos 300 camera with sigma 170-500mm lens with great results in bright sunlight(400 FILM). I'd also like to know how would the D30 affect my focal length and autofocus.

many thanks,
Colin.

The D30 is probably not the best choice for sports photography. It's focus is a bit slow and it's burst rate isn't suited to sports. The 1D is designed for action but it's also a little more than twice the price of a D30.

I agree with Jeff. You might also look at the 10D as it si much improved over the D30/60. Autofocus is much faster, AF servo is included and 3fps for 9 frames (can shoot quite quickly after that up till maybe 20 frames before waiting for the buffers to empty). Oh yah, it's selling for $1499 or now can be found for less without a lens.

The D30/60/10D will multiply your focal length by a factor of 1.6 so your 170-500 will become 272-800mm Wow eh? All that with no loss of light or quality. As a matter of fact the quality may even be slightly better as you are not using the extreme corners of the glass where the quality is usually not as good as the center.

The only downside is you lose the widest lenses as your 15-30 becomes a 24-48mm. Ah, I prefer the longer zoom range anyways :).
