changing aspect ratio

I need to change the aspect ratio of some photos to video size for a slideshow. How can I do this in photoshop without changing both dimensions? The ratio needs to be 16:9. Changing one automatically changes the other. I'm stumped. Thanks!

  Hi Christine,

If you don't change both aspects, the image will get distorted (squished, squashed, stretched...)

But if you were to do this, you would want to uncheck the "Constrain Proportions" checkbox in the Image Size dialog box.

If I were you, I would probably make a new image and size it the dimensions you need to fill the slideshow. Make the background black (or whatever background color you want). Then copy and paste in the photo.

Good advice Jim. So many people don't understand aspect ratio facts and think you can crop or enlarge to get any size/shape image.
