You have always needed to respond to a specific thread in order to be able to get notifications when others post to it. There has never, to my knowledge, been a way to be notified of every single discussion that was ever started (thank goodness for that!!). The problem at present is that even if you respond to a thread and check the box requesting email notifications, you will not get them. So you have the sense that nothing is ever going on in the forums.
