Having not entered anything since 9/21 I see that my ambition to enter is directly affected by the response time they take in reviewing our images. It used to be so much more fun here getting that instant gratification or at least some sort of acknowledgement that they passed it by because others got EPs all ready. Now you never know where your image stands. A month later I dont even know what catagory I entered them in. lol . I kind of wonder who is filling out these surveys they send and if they are in fact as positive as they say. I see they are actually runnng again the 2 for 1 sale. At this point in th egame I wouldn't even purchase a 10 to 1.

This is really sad, everyone. A multitude of concerns from members with everyone feeling deflated due to lack of EP's. As far as I'm concerned, this is jeopardizing my interest in continuing on as a member as I really enjoyed the fun of encouragement from other members and the contest with of course the EP's. I sent a note in two days ago but don't have a response yet. Will let you know if I do hear something...

With so many members that participate on the EFP threads over the past six months threatening not to renew, it will be interesting to see 1]if that's true; 2] if enough people don't renew (even on the 2-fer; and 3] if a lack of renewals would have a big enough impact that the old ways will return.

I think they don't believe anybody will actually not renew. I also think they have pretty good reason to believe that. I've seen quite a few threaten and nobody follow through, so it's kind of a threat that never materializes. Nobody wants to leave the social aspects of the site. We all have good friends here and that means a lot.

Sometimes I get the feeling they are trying to phase out the galleries in favor of the more expensive websites? I have gotten several emails about the 2 for 1's on them, but no word on the same deal for the galleries...I have friends who have not renewed and won't renew unless the 2 for 1 comes back...Most of the women I shoot with hardly participate here anymore which is a shame as we used to be able to share photos from our adventures together. I guess nothing great lasts forever...

That thought also had occurred to me, Jill - but then I remembered that in the past the 2-Fer for the Pros offers normally didn't come at the same time as the Basic renewal offers. The latter usually came in the Spring (just about the same time as my account would be expiring soon anyway.) I rarely paid attention and simply took advantage of the sales which pretty much explains why my subscription doesn't expire until April 2015.

My answer to your question: I also saw the 2 for 1 add. I had been considering getting the website for awhile and had decided to do so. I have been waiting to see if this management had changed any but realized it was the same old-same old. I went with Smugmug. They have a good site for $60 per year and have been very helpful in setting mine up. It was $70 cheaper and a lot better response from the site. I was afraid to invest $199 for a site here since things have changed so drastically. Since the contest is now for free I am sorry I paid for 2 years.

Patricia B. I have had my website with them since 2003 and for the most part love dealing with them. They are on top of things and will answer any questions immediately about how to set things up etc. I am not a techie, so many times if I ask nicely they will actually just fix things for me rather then try and explain how to do it :-)I am a bit overwhelmed with the new changes they are making, but have awhile yet before I have to switch to the new look. I started out paying 59.00 for the pro level which went up over the years but not much. Recently I decided that since I was not using them to sell stuff to just go to the lower level for about 1/2 the cost.

Carolyn: I got a warning from Adobe this morning that my adobe ID may have been comprimized; that Adobe's password system had been hacked and that I should change my password, and all other sites that I have used it on. Could be what happened to you. Think of how many Adobe customers there are-whew. I also got a strange message last week on my cell phone, that I had been hacked, so I think all this is coming from the same place. I have my phone mirroring what I get on my computer. What a mess!

It is the ugly side of business. Most photos are not even being looked at. Saves the sight money not to have to judge by looking at the photo's everyday. They are playing it smart to by not caring about or addressing the concerns of its customers because they know that most of us will renew anyway. If you contact them they will not respond. BP is in the position where it is making good money and it can at the same time ignore its customers. Most businesses could not survive doing that, but BP can because its customers enjoy the social and sharing part of BP. The only thing we can do is enjoy our photography, encourage each other, never judge your work by the judges who usually don't even see your work. Do what you love to do. Don't let BP and its staff destroy your love for seeing the beauty in the world. Support each other, encourage one another, cherish the friendships.

Mine may well have been an Adobe thing. I didn't think I had a password over there, but I must have got one when I registered my Elements 9..I got an email from Adobe saying they had changed it, and I could change it again by hanging from the ceiling by a spiderweb and licking my keyboard, or something about as NOT easy. I have no use for Adobe online, so I just left it at whatever they changed it to.

My last EP was around Sept. 7; zero since. Doubt the contest will disappear, but rather is being seriously de-emphasized/discouraged in an effort to refocus on why the site was started (classes and, to a lesser degree, upscale galleries). Only thing I'm SURE of, though, is that the quality of our photos has not taken a nosedive all of a sudden.

Ken, that explains it. My first entry for September was on 11th. I guess I'm not the only one who felt discouragement. I was wondering if they don't like seeing my work any longer. I'm very sensitive. LOL

Here is the pattern as I see it...they won't post September finalists and winners until we are well into Nov.! CRAZY!

Seems like the pattern has been that close to the end of the month, they finish up the EPs from the prior month (usually from mid month on). At this point they have stopped EPs on the current month (again, getting thru about half the month). Then they announce SFs, Finalists then Winners. What's even more odd is that, instead of starting back up where they left off in mid month, they instead start on EPs for the new month. Mid month they'll stop the current month EPs and go back to finish the prior month. Rinse, repeat... I can't figure out what benefit they would get from doing it this way but there either is one or the new software won't let them do things the old way. I miss the old way, the pace and the involvement. It was more lively and more fun. Honestly, that made it more addictive too...lol!

You know, I have been wondering if maybe they might be short on judges, down sizing ect... And if they are that might be the reason they are slow to get everything done? Might they contact members of Betterphoto who have really great photography skills to start EP'S, Then those judges that are left give out the finalists and winners?? Just an idea....

Maybe they should just go back to the way I used to be before they even had EPs where you had to wait until the end of the month to find out if you had a finalist?

I could handle that. But I also feel like BP is evolving with these changes so I'm curious. Plus, I enjoy hearing from you guys and seeing your work so I'm not getting off the ride just yet. :)
