Staff Favorites? I got this email : New Round in Monthly Contest Great news! We have added another round late in the BetterPhoto contest judging process. During this new round, Staff Favorites are chosen. Finalists will be more selective, and are pulled from this new round. Contestants will be notified if their contest entry is selected as a Staff Favorite. Then, if the image is later chosen as a finalist, the photographer will be emailed again. So, does that mean that "Staff Favorites" will be chosen from images with EPs? Or is it possible that images which have not yet received an EP might get a Staff favorite? Lately I have been unchecking the box for an image to be seen if it seems to have been passed over for an EP. It would be great if this could be clarified a bit more as I am sure other members are wondering the same thing :-)

I'm still totally confused about the relationship among EPs, the Staff Favorites and Finalists - and I didn't get the email, either (???). But then I also haven't had a Staff Fave since the initial launch and only a couple of EPs. So who knows?

Jill, I'm not sure if you noticed, but there's another thread in the forum on the Staff Favorites. Here's my interpretation for the relationship--ref Monnie's question. EP round - first round of the contest Staff Favorites - semi-finalist round. Please note I'm just saying "semi-finalist" based on what BP said in their earlier e-mails...that Finalists come from the Staff Favorites. Thus, they're kinda like semi-finalists. Last month, there were around 1200 SFs and 600 finalists (going off memory). Another hypothetical. Assume 10,000 contest entries. Maybe 50% get an EP, or 5,000. Then, there's probably another elimination round..assume the number down to 2,500 now. Then, the Staff Favories round, and you're down to 1,200. Then Finalist, at 700. You can't get a Staff Favorite unless the photo got EP. And you can't get a finalist if the photo didn't get a SF. They're just successive rounds in the contst.

I jut read through all of these comments, and I'm wondering why my Staff Favorite isn't any where to be found. Confused? They sent me a Finalist notice and staff favorite for Aug. notice in an e-mail. Just wondering~

Mine isn't showing up either. Still shows an EP.. I left it up to see if it would show up eventually, but it hasn't. I only got 2 of them and the other one was a finalist, so it wouldn't apply to that one, since the finalist button replaces it. Maybe it's because I have an old style gallery??

Millieanne, there's a glitch on the new-style gallery and this was reported on an earlier forum thread. Although I think I'll contact BP direct. Try using the old style gallery temporarily; you should see them there. They look very similar to the finalist emblem. And in the new style gallery (the kind you have now), you should be able to click the thumbnail and the SF badge will appear below the photo. At least it does for mine.

And to reiterate what Carolyn said...if the SF e-mail was for the same photo that got finalist, then the Finalist badge replaced it. I skimmed thru your comment and replied, then realized you probably only had the one image that was both a SF and finalist. But I did just send BP an e-mail asking if they could fix the glitch that prevents them from showing up on the new-style gallery.

My SF was for the one finalist I had in July, so I didn't know why it's not showing. Thank's for all your responses folks, and perhaps it will in time show up~

Millieanne, you'll never see the SF for your finalist. Your SF button was quickly replaced by the finalist button. It's similar to a gold medal (2nd or 1st place), replacing the finalist badge. I hope this makes sense.

Has anyone here received a Staff Favorite since the "great news" was announced? I got 3 back then and nothing since (very few EPs, either, so maybe that's part of the answer). Just curious.

None here for August yet. Had 5 last month. I don't look for them till after they get done EPs for August. Probably be right before they put out finalist. See what everyone else thinks.

I've never got any, but I guess they are semi-finalists of sorts... so, maybe now it's still too early.

If they are the semi-finalists, then BP will have to finish up all the August EPs first, before they start their next round. And we'd probably see them 5-7 days after that. I think they're only up to Aug 20th so far so it will still be awhile, I think.
