Domain Names I already have a domain name dedicated to my photography which is parked on GoDaddy (another hosting service). I would prefer to leave it there but setup a Deluxe Website with BetterPhoto using this same domain name. How can I do this??? thx, Ken

If you want to keep your photography domain name with GoDaddy, use GoDaddy's domain name forwarding to point to your Betterphoto Deluxe site.

Kenneth- I had the same situation last year. Email BP and ask them, they sent me step by step instructions of what I needed to do when your domain name is registered thru another hoster.

Thank you for your responses, Nobi & Denyse. I did send them an email last week asking for step by step instructions but they have not responded. In fact, that was the second direct email of mine that was ignored! Is this typical of BetterPhoto???

NOOO, not at all! They are usually very responsive from my experience. I don't think I kept my instructions, but I'll check my saved emails when I get home this evening.

Hi Kenneth, I thought you said, you want to keep your current domain name with GoDaddy. So, here's a couple of points for you: 1. If you wish to keep your domain name with GoDaddy, then you will have to use Domain Forwarding at GoDaddy and no BP help is needed nor BP can offer their help. 2. If you wish to transfer your domain name (that is currently registered with GoDaddy) to BetterPhoto, then BP should certainly be able to assist in this process. (assuming they handle transfer of domain names, and it seems they do as per Denyse above.) When emailing to BP for their instructions, you will have to note that you want to transfer your existing Domain Name. (Normally, this process costs a small processing fee, but I do not know if BP requires it or not.)

Denyse - I appreciate your checking this evening. Hopefully you still have these. Nobi - I understand domain forwarding as I was originally going to do that to my local ISP. BUT I don't understand what would happen at the BP side. Would I need an additional domain name from them? What domain name would people see when they got "forwarded" to BP? Would it be the "new" name or my GoDaddy name?? Denyse & Nobi - Maybe thay are on vacation these last two weeks or something else is going on but I am afraid they have ignored me so far.

Why is it that you want to keep your registration with godaddy but have your site at BP? I had registered my domain name another service, and yes I believe it was actually a TRANSFER that I was asking for. Perhaps what you are asking is a different thing, I'm not into all this technical stuff :)

Just to be cautious, keep my options open and try BP for awhile before totally commiting. GoDaddy provides a cheap place to park my name and have full email use of it. BP will be a bit of an (expensive) experiment for a WebSite. So far, with no reponse from them, I am really hesitant to commit.

That is exactly one of the reasons to keep the name at GoDaddy and use Domain Name forwarding to forward your Domain to BP. If you can commit to BP's Deluxe Web site, then name transfer is the way to go. I was going to suggest this (name transfer) before I read your last entry. The following may help you to decide which way to go: I do not know if GoDaddy charges you extra the "forwarding and masking" service. This, you will have to go to GoDaddy and find out. It should be documented. Read their Help file or FAQ, or simply email them and ask.

BP actually won't do transfers, I found this email from when I was discussing it with them. BUT it does sound like you can point your domain to BP. Read Heather's message below & see if it helps you at all. It sounds like you still need some tech info from BP to pull it off though. Her email is included at the bottom of the message, try going directly to her. ***************** Hi Denyse, If you want to use your own domain name, you either need to be able to a) You will be responsible for all technical support revolving around your b) You will be responsible for all domain name registration and renewal If you are unable to change your DNS settings, then you will want to select We've tried to transfer names to BetterPhoto in the past and it just hasn't If you need to change DNS, just let us know and we will email you the Thanks, Heather Young

My thanks to both of you!! A little bit earlier today I simply sent an email to Jim Miotke. He responded within minutes with an answer almost identical to Denyse's. Shortly after that I received an email from Heather. Jim gave me DNS settings. I just need to experiment with GoDaddy and also understand if these settings mean I am already setup on BP. I have asked Heather these questions. I may take a several days but I hope to be joining both of you soon on BP!
