Nikon digital

I own a 70's erra Nikon F motor drive with a collection of like new condition (expensive then) Nikor lenses. Does Nikon have a digital camera that will accept these excellent lenses?

Nikon's D1, D1H, and D1X will accept these lenses. These cameras are expensive pro-level tools, essentially the F5 converted to digital. The exposure functions vary depending on what series Nikkor lens is used.

Per Nikon USA website ( www.nikonusa.com ):

"Usable Lenses:
1) D-type AF Nikkor: All functions possible,
2) D-type Manual-Focus Nikkor: All functions except autofocus possible,
3) AF Nikkor other than D-type: All functions except 3D Color Matrix Metering and 3D Multi-Sensor Balanced Fill-Flash for D1-series possible,
4) AI-P Nikkor: All functions except 3D Color Matrix Metering, 3D Multi-Sensor Balanced Fill-Flash for D1 and autofocus possible,
5) Non-CPU: Usable in [A] or [M] mode Center-Weighted or Spot Metering; Electronic Rangefinder usable with lens with maximum aperture of f/5.6 or faster."

  Hi Jon:
Thanks very much for your quick response. Not being a pro, that level of Nikon digital is not in my future. I'll continue to crank up the old 'F' from time to time to use those lenses.

If I was you I would not even consider going digital. The quality sucks, and must pictures (final prints) have a very distinct pixeled look which is very ugly, and annoying. Digital photography is just starting to touch the ground and will continue to get better, but won't have the quality we are looking for quite some time. You need adapters for everything, even for different lens in most cases. So you get to preview shots, whoopity do. Isn't it better to learn the hard way and try to figure out for yourself what you can do better next time. Get a Nikon thats not digital. :D

  David,
You have an enviable situation here, the best 35-mm optics around. Before you put thousands into a digital body that will no doubt be obsolete soon, buy a Nikon film scanner. Scan every image you ever took in your life, that you took with your great optics, archive them to CD, and print them on a true photo quality inkjet. For 900 bucks, you get the Coolscan IV with the capability of handling dense slides as well as any 35-mm neg, and 2900 dpi scans, with Photoshop LE thrown in. An Epson 890 printer is 300 bucks.
If digital "sucks", as someone said, it's because people are expecting to print 8 x 10's from low-resolution images, and JPEGing the hell out of everything so that the image quality, what little there is, is further deteriorated. You can pay 500 bucks for a digital camera only to get a point'n shoot toy that only gives screen resolution images. I think digital SLR's are going to get better and cheaper rapidly; just hold off and save your money.
