Camera Maintenance I have a Minolta XG1 camera that I purchased probably 20 years ago. I found it too complicated and gave up on it some time ago. Now I want to take it back out of the cobwebs and try using it again. I want to know if there is any special maintenance I should do or have done before I start using it again. I'm a real novice and know very little about the care and maintenance of this type of camera and I want to do everything I can to get the best results possible.

I'm a novice also, but when I inherited an old Canon AE-1 that had been sitting for years, my local photo shop advised a CL&A (cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment) He said the old lubes in the camera would "set up" and dust and dirt would migrate into the camera and could cause damage. He even recommended someone to do the work. The guy I sent it to cleaned it (inside and out) checked out the metering and shudder speeds, lubricated it, and replaced all the rubber and foam to prevent light leaks. Charged $35 and even paid shipping back to me. It looks and works absolutely like new!!

James, I also have an AE-1, and would love to have it serviced. Any chance you still have the contact info on the guy that fixed yours? Thanks,
