OK, bricks, not rocks. This caterpillar was crawling on my shoe. I picked it up and it willingly posed wherever I put it (including on these bricks). I took a shot with it on my thumb while holding the camera in my other hand. I discovered it is an American Dagger Moth caterpillar. They can "sting" leaving a painful rash. Actually, the hollow hairs break off and embed in the skin with their toxins. Guess it liked me or I got lucky.

Great details on this little critter, and I love the brick as the background, really making that color color stand out! I did not know they were poisonous.... I'm not sure if we have this type here, but will remember not to pick one up if I see it!

All that vivid color and spiky hairs seems to scream "don't touch!" ;) Glad you escaped unharmed, and with a terrific close-up!

Great close up of this nasty caterpillar. In the ocean diving, we were always told not to touch anything red. Well, those rules must not be the same; great detail.
