I KNOW that avocet! Actually, I recognized the lake immediately....NICE capture! (one of my favorite waterfowls to shoot)

Thank you, Cary! It's a great place for bird photography, especially in spring and early summer. There were two pairs there yesterday, and I hope they are successful with their young ones this year.

BelMar Park is great for waterfowl most of the year. Great blue herons, night herons, avocets, sandpipers, lesser yellowlegs, pelicans, ibis, little blue herons, cormorants....blue winged and green winged teals, redheads, bluebills, widgeons, golden eyes, buffleheads, grebes.... I'm glad to hear that there are mating pairs of avocets there. They used to nest on a small "island" over by the footbridge, but sometimes the island would be underwater.

Yes, it's always a nice selection over there. I have never seen Ibis or Little Blue Herons, though. I did see a Green Heron briefly last year, during migration.

wow: I never got to see a green heron, and the ibises and little blue heron, I only saw once. I used to go there ALL the time, because my office was just down the road. The only yellow headed blackbirds I've ever seen were at BelMar ,one day (maybe more). I think there's a great blue still nesting on the island. And I forgot about all the snowy egrets. I miss not living close-by...can you tell? ;-)
