You know, I don't believe I've ever actually seen a pomegranate--certainly not up close. Love the opening and the delicacy of the seeds.

My Nan used to have a Pomegranate tree by her front gate, and she used to pick about 15 a year from her sparse little tree. As kids, we used to spit the seeds out. Nowadays, down they all go! :) Martha, you've captured the little stamen things so well, with so much clarity in the detail. Well done!

Thanks so much for the nice comments, everyone, and a special thanks to Debbie for letting me know that is a stamen! I have since found some pictures of the beautiful flowers. And yes the fruit is very healthy, especially the seeds! The seeds seem to become more tender if the fruit sits out, after being separated, for a few days.

I love this, Martha, and found it unusual, interesting, beautiful and even seasonal. Yes, it reminds me of a Christmas tree ornament somehow. Maybe it's the way it peels back kind of like a star to reveal the fine filaments within.

Martha, its one of my favorite fruits. You have composed and resented it really wonderfully. Specially the color, the crown like opening and the details within the crown. A lovely image all in all.

Usman.

Great close up to be able to see the details in the stamens.

Congratulations on the Finalist, Martha. This one did very well in the Favorites contest at 101, too :) Good luck in the next round.
