Course Outline

Lesson 1: A Photographer's Approach to Photoshop CS6
This lesson starts with some guidelines to working with Photoshop that will help you master it more easily and with less stress. You will then learn how to set up your workspace and change preferences. The lesson includes the basic work of opening and saving your image as a new file to protect your original, then covers the first cropping of your image. Most important, the lesson covers the key processing needs of the photograph and how Photoshop helps you process your image for these needs.
Assignment: Explore Photoshop as you work on your images based on their key needs. Following the tips and examples in the lesson, submit images that use the basic controls effectively.

Lesson 2: Working with RAW Files in Photoshop CS6
Begin by understanding the real difference between RAW and JPEG and how to get started using Camera Raw, the RAW program that comes with Photoshop. You will return to the key needs of the photo but now look at specific controls in Camera Raw. Regardless if you shoot RAW or not, this will help you better understand the very important key processing needs of a photo. The lesson also covers transferring your image from Camera Raw to Photoshop.
Assignment: Experiment with using the key processing controls on RAW images submit images that show this.

Lesson 3: You Can Master Layers and Layer Masks
Discover why layers and layer masks are so powerful in Photoshop. Learn the basics of layers without pain! You will learn to work with adjustment layers to allow you to process your image non-destructively so that adjustments don't reduce your image's quality. You will learn a process that will get you working with layer masks effectively in order to control parts of an image. And you will discover the local controls in Camera Raw.
Assignment: Experiment with layers and layer masks, or with local controls in Camera Raw, and submit examples of these experiments to discover what is possible.

Lesson 4: Finishing Touches
Once you have done your basic adjustments and local controls, it is time to clean up problems with cloning and content aware fill. Learn how to get the most from both of them. Then discover how two blending modes can make your processing easier with very bright or very dark photos. Finally, learn to size images properly for specific use and how to sharpen these sized photos.
Assignment: Show off your Photoshop work with cloning, content aware fill, and two blending modes.
