Lesson 1: Composition
Essential elements of composition. Making your images "snap". An image is made, not taken - learn the tools to make it.
Assignment: Create a balanced and snappy composition.

Lesson 2: Light
Photography is all about light. How the Sunny 16 rule can truly be your friend.
Learn how to find the best light.
Assignment: Shoot the same subject with front light, side light and back light.

Lesson 3: Fill Flash
Improving your histogram with fill flash. When fill works and when it does not. Control your flash to be the "kiss of life" rather than the "kiss of death".
Assignment: Cut through the shadows.

Lesson 4: Window Light
Light that is not ordinary, light that can be extraordinary. The kindest way to photograph your friends and family. Open up a whole new world to your photography
Assignment: Photograph a person or object in window light.

Lesson 5: Motion Effects
Motion can add excitement. Controlling your blurs. Motion can be an asset rather than a detriment.
Assignment: Zoom on a stationary subject or pan a moving subject.

Lesson 6: Depth of Field
Selective focus. Showing the environment in perfect clarity. The easy and quick way to isolate your subject.
Assignment: Shoot the same subject with limited and extensive depth of field.

Lesson 7: Polarizer
When to use this wonderful tool. When not to use this wonderful tool. How to use it.
Assignment: Shoot rainy situations and/or wet rocks and/or waterfalls.

Lesson 8: People Outdoors
Making what have been a snapshot into a portrait. Working with the world's largest softbox. Using fill flash and reflectors with people.
Assignment: Photograph people at noon, before sunset, and after sunset.

Is this course intended only for beginning, intermediate, or advanced photographers?
The course is most intended for beginning and intermediate digital photographers. If you are a film photographer considering going digital or are new to photography and have a digital camera, this class will be a great fit for you.  

What kind of equipment will I need to complete the photo assignments?
In addition to your digital camera, you will need a tripod (or bean bag) and a polarizer filter (or polarized sunglasses if you have a camera that doesn't allow you to use traditional filters).

Do I have to be online at any specific time?
No, you do not need to be online at any specific time. The lessons are sent to your email and you are also provided the Campus Square - where you interact with your classmates and instructor. This is also where you upload your photos to be critiqued by your instructor. The instructors are very punctual and respond quickly.

Will I have access to the instructor to ask questions during the photo course?

The course gives you a lot to learn in eight weeks. Even if you don't master a specific skill you gain powerful tools to keep expanding your knowledge of photography.

The instructor's critiques were very helpful. I appreciate thesuggestions on how to improve my photographs and in the end, I think it is that practice and training that helps me improve.

The "extra clicks" make a huge difference. It allowed me to step outside the class and ask any questions I was burning to ask. They give students a great opportunity with that blank slate and it sets this class apart from other Better Photo courses.
