Week 1: Using Bridge to Manage Your Nature Photos
Learn how to manage your growing library of digital nature images using Photoshop's Bridge.
Assignment: Implementing your image management system, and providing 5 of your favorite nature photographs for critique.
Week 2: Setting Up Photoshop
Discover how to become proficient in getting around the Photoshop windows, palettes, toolboxes, and layers.
Assignment: Provide an image from using layers in Photoshop, flattening layers, and saving images in JPEG format.
Week 3: Camera Raw, and Making Color and Tonal Corrections to Nature Photos
Nature and landscape composition will be the topic of this weeks lesson. In the Photoshop portion, you'll first learn how to use Camera Raw, then learn how to make color and tonal corrections to your nature images.
Assignment: Making color and tonal adjustments using Levels, Curves, Color Balance, Hue/Saturation, and auto controls in Photoshop or Elements.
Week 4: Editing Nature Photos
You'll start off learning the details of camera settings for nature photos, and also developing a shooting workflow. Finally, you'll learn many editing techniques and tools used in Photoshop.
Assignment: Providing a before and after versions of an image using the techniques learned in Chapters 3 and 4.

- Adobe Photoshop CS2, CS3, or CS4 (preferred)
- Familiarity with the basics of Photoshop.
- Digital or film camera with the ability to make manual adjustments, such as aperture and shutter speeds.
Do I need to have Photoshop?
The techniques that I will be demonstrating will be for Photoshop CS4, but most will accommodate earlier versions. You can also download a 30-day trial of CS4 at adobe.com.
What should I expect to learn in this course?
Each lesson starts out teaching techniques regarding shooting nature photos, then dives into Photoshop. You'll learn the step-by-step process of organizing, correcting, Camera Raw, and making edits to your nature photos. After completing the course, you'll have a more solid understanding of shooting techniques, as well as becoming more proficient in the use of Photoshop.
Do I have to have a digital camera?
No, the majority of techniques and suggestions are applicable whether you're using film or digital. However, some of the topics will be specifically targeted for the digital shooter.
How much time will be involved in completing assignments?
You should be able to get through each week's lessons in a few hours, depending on your familiarity of Photoshop and color/tonal correction and editing techniques.

Do I have to be online at any specific time?
