Lesson 1: Exposure Modes
This lesson provides a comprehensive understanding of your camera’s exposure modes. You will learn the benefits of Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual modes, as well as the power of the Nikon D60’s Scene Modes. You will see how each impacts the look of your photograph and when and why to choose between them.
Assignment #1: Create and submit 2 images using two different exposure modes: Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, Manual or Scenic modes. Choose subjects and settings that you believe are perfectly suited for that particular exposure mode.
Lesson 2: Metering and Focus
This lesson explains how the D60 evaluates and measures light using its 4 metering modes. You will understand which metering system will handle 90 percent of your shooting situations and when you might want to use the other three alternatives. You’ll also understand how to control the camera’s autofocus to ensure that your subject is rendered tack sharp.
Assignment #2: Take a portrait with a very limited depth of field (shot at f/4.5 or wider) and use a specific sensor to detect and lock focus Take an “action” shot where a subject is moving and the camera is set for Continuous AF and Continuous Drive modes.
Lesson 3: Raw, JPEG and White Balance
You will learn the difference and benefits of saving your digital images as JPEG or Raw files. Discover how the camera’s enhances the look of your images when the files are saved as JPEGs. Understand the flexibility and quality potential of Raw. You’ll also learn how white balance affects the color accuracy of your image.
Assignment #3: Take an image in overcast light or open shade. You will shoot images using Auto, a Preset and Custom WB setting. Shoot these in the highest JPEG mode of your Nikon D60.
Lesson 4: Flash and Camera Maintenance
This lesson will explain how easy it is to use flash both indoors and outdoors. Understand the principle of TTL flash metering and how flash can be used to reduce contrast and brighten colors. Also, learn how to clean and maintain your equipment for years.
Assignment #4: Submit two images using flash both indoors and outdoors.
