FAQ

Top

What version of Photoshop® is required?
You will need a full version of Photoshop® (no Elements): CS2, CS3, or CS4. But a note on CS4: Lessons are supplemented by the instructor with videos on CS4 techniques.

What Photoshop skills do I need for this course?
You should be somewhat familiar with the program. Actually if you can create adjustment layers, layer masks and know what the tools on the tool bar are, you should do fine. I am only concentrating on teaching you the best methods for dealing with exposure and color correction. We are not going to cover the tools for cloning, sizing, etc. This class is designed for the person who has been using Photoshop for the digital darkroom and want to expand their knowledge so that they will be become masters of exposure and color correction. So if you want to move beyond Variations, Color Balance and Brightness/Contrast, and harness the real power of Photoshop®, then this class is for you!

Are there any other requirements? Do I need particular computer equipment, for example?
No. All you need is Internet access (which you have if you are reading this on the Web). Whether you use Mac, Windows XP or another operating system, you will be fine. I also recommend a graphics tablet. It is not necessary, but I liken a graphics tablet in the digital darkroom to the tripod in photography. You can get by without one but you will have better results when using one!

This was a great class, don't let my number fool you. I went in knowing ALOT about masking already, so alot of this was repeat stuff for me. If you know nothing about masks or how to use them- you are in for a GREAT treat.
We learned wonderful tips on exposure, shadow and highlights, how to make ND filters in PS, selective color, dodging and burning, removing color casts. Overall a great wealth of knowledge for anyone. I know I will refer back to these lessons over and over again.

Lewis provides images for you to work on, which is great. If you don't have time to shoot your own images this can be invaluable. He also allows you to submit your own too- his are somewhat challenging- which make sure you know what your doing.

The only reason I gave it a 4.5 is because so much was review for me and it really would have been so much better in video! I've taken PS courses on video and have found them so much easier to understand and to see and to have the info sink in much better.

I will certainly consider Lewis' courses again.

I just completed the course on Photoshop Toolbox #1; taught by Lewis Kemper. I knew very little about the subjects that Mr. Kemper presented. I feel that after completing this course I have become much more competent in the techniques presented in the course. I feel the course was excellently handled. I especially appreciated working on the photos Mr. Kemper used as subjects every week. I look forward to taking more courses on Photoshop and especially those taught by Mr. Kemper. Many thanks.

This was my first online course and although I had scheduling problems, Lewis was very knowledgable, easy to work with and made the course very user friendly. I have gone back several times already and used the lessons as refrences, and I'm sure with time it will become easy to me.
