How can I keep motivated?

When you're feeling "not into it", how do YOU get motivated?

I'm curious.

Do you browse galleries or contest finalists?

Do you just start out the door, and walk with camera or smartphone in hand, until something catches your eye?

Do you take a class or join a workshop?

What works for you?

When this happens, I pick a favorite subject, like flowers, and then just shoot with no expectations. I tell myself, take one or two photos, doesn't matter how they come out. Then do it again tomorrow. I try and let go of the inner voice that says "not good enough." If I keep at it for a few days, the joy starts to return, and I get excited again. After all, I'm not a professional. My camera is supposed to just make me happy. The hardest part is getting out of my own stupid head and taking the first shot. I also look at all the fantastic BP uploads. I'm always inspired by the variety of amazing photos. I look at the site every day.

Great ideas, Chris!

I try to remind myself that lulls in inspiration are normal, and not overthink it. But I also try to find a new place, or a place I haven’t been to for a while. Take my camera and go for a wander…. Look for something new. Sometimes it takes a few tries.
