The 2nd Annual BetterPhoto Summit Photography Weekend was definitely a highlight of the year ... with so many fantastic presentations by BP instructors. But, for those who attended the Post-Summit Photography Tour, the inspiration and information continued for two more days! One special treat took place at the Redmond, WA, studio of Digital Photographic. Noted fashion photographer and BP instructor Bruce Smith came all the way from England to attend the Summit and then put on a terrific demonstration for the lucky workshop participants.

With wonderful subjects to work with, Bruce set up and shot a series of portraits. Many were formal studio photos with a white backdrop - see "Jules and Denise". These studio photos made use of a seemingly simple yet definitely effective lighting set: a single strobe (out of view at upper right in each image) and the creative use of reflectors to bounce light in all of the right places. One favorite studio scene took place on the "beach" - see the accompanying images of sisters Molly & Lissy and Jules the Pirate at the Beach. Note the camera perspective in the "beach" scenes: low-down in order to photograph the subject straight-on, rather than aiming downward.
