Morning light on a section of the coast at Anini Bay on the north shore of Kauai, with beach morning glory in the foreground. The yellow object to the right is a Rescue Tube, designed to allow beach-goers to help distressed swimmers. This particular beach is mostly safe due to the extensive coral reef, but like any Hawaiian beach, currents can form at any time. The first Rescue Tubes were installed at Kauai's most popular beaches about three years ago. Since then they have been installed at all beaches. Over 63 Rescue Tube saves have been reported, and it is estimated that about 18 drownings may have been prevented.
