“Point Bonita Lighthouse” by Martha Mazon. (1) A BetterPhoto Members Favorite!
Point Bonita Lighthouse is a short drive North from San Francisco, perched on a cliff near the opening of San Francisco Bay. It's accessible via a steep 1/2 mile walking path, the last part of which passes through a small tunnel which was cut by hand through the cliff. The tunnel is only open from 12:30 to 3:30, ensuring the worst possible lighting for photographs, but even so, the charming lighthouse is well worth a visit. The final approach to the lighthouse is via a tiny bridge designed to echo the lines of the Golden Gate Bridge. I've attached another image showing the approach leading up to the tunnel. ** Travel & Place **
