One of the beds in the infirmary found at Fort Loudon, TN (circa 1750's - 1800). While complaints are rampant about hospital care these days, rope burn is not usually one of them, although this design does aid with linen cleaning. However, not sure I would have wanted to be sick during this time, as other implements of the trade were also on display (discussion).
