Kitty Kono
bio

What kind of photography do you most enjoy?
I love it all, but if I had to narrow it down, I most enjoy macro nature photography. To me, there is nothing like finding a great bug or spider and figuring out how to, first, get the little critter to stand still, and second, how to take a great photograph that tells an interesting story.

How long have you been a photographer?
I've taken photographs for most of my life, but I got serious about it two years ago when I retired and had time to really concentrate.

What got you started?
In 2007, my husband gave me a Nikon D80. In August 2008, we left for a one-year adventure in Japan. I had a lot of time and few responsibilities, so I made a commitment to go outside every single day and take photographs. It was glorious to have the freedom and the opportunity to take photographs in that wonderful country.

What inspires you?
Great light, great bugs, lots of time, and fresh batteries.

What are your photography goals?
I want to be a fabulously famous nature photographer with a portfolio of photographs that will make people smile.

How has BetterPhoto helped you attain them?
When I first went to Japan in 2008, I found BP online. I took my first class in October 2008 and have not skipped taking a new class each month since then. I’ve learned so much, but also realize how much more there is to learn.

We celebrate Kitty's Masterpice of the Month award for her image "Stink Bug on My Car" for the October Mission "Visual Creativity". Stink Bug on My Car received 28 nominations - congratulations Kitty!

Kitty's Wish List

I would love to have a great lens for photographing birds. One of these days, I may break down and get Photoshop.

What do you carry in your camera bag?
I take my tripod, my camera and maybe one extra lens for the day.
