bio
My name is Deri Dority and I live in St Paul, Oregon. I am an RN and am lucky to have a full-time job working out of my house. I get to set my own office hours, which gives me more flexibility for my photography. My favorite photography subjects are landscape and wildlife although I am slowly learning to love people photography. Wide-angle photography seems to be a niche for me. Right now, fine art photography seems to be my forte, as I love the creative side of photography. I have been selling my images on RedBubble.com and my websites are: deridorityphotography.com and deridphotography.com I am especially fond of High Dynamic Range Images (HDRI) and love the flexibility HDRI gives under difficult shooting situations. I started photography in high school with black and white and darkroom development. After I got my first SLR, I moved to color slides. I then took a really long break from photography (over 25 years) and got restarted back in 2006 with the advent of the digital age. Both my sister and I had forgotten a great deal of information (i.e. what does f 5.6 mean, etc). So we both started taking courses, which led us to BetterPhoto. I am inspired by cutting-edge technology and love to be right on the edge with my photographs. I love Photoshop and the various plug-ins that provide a creative outlet for me. Besides HDRI, I have been playing with hyper-resolution and focus stacking. I have several main photography goals that I have been working on. One is to be published on a regular basis, and another is to have regular gallery showings. I would like to expand my websites to facilitate the sale of my work and, to this end, have really gotten involved in search engine optimization. Through multiple BP courses, my photography has really been improving. The Masterpiece Membership has further inspired me and has taught me how to critique and break down the components of an image. In turn, this has led to improved compositions in my images. I have a really big passion for polar bears, and my trip to Churchill Canada has proven to be one of the biggest highlights of my life. To be surrounded by polar bears in the wild is an amazing experience unlike any other I have had. I hope to go back in 2010, but am also hoping to go to the Cotswolds with BetterPhoto. ![]() We celebrate Deri's First Place award for her image "The Landing" for the September Mission "Storytelling and Website Presentation". The Landing received 28 nominations - congratulations Deri!
The Landing Deri's WishlistMy wish list is too expensive for reality: I would love a medium format camera with a digital back. I would also love a really fast long lens such as the Canon f 2.8 300mm or one of the fast super telephotos. In my kit are three camera bodies, the Canon 1D M3, Canon 5D M2 and the Canon 50D as my backup camera. When I go on bigger photo shoots, I always have two cameras with different lenses on. For lenses, I pack either my Canon 14 mm II or the Canon 16-35mm II, the Canon 70-200, and the Canon 100-400 with the 1.4x extender. I also have a Canon 100 mm macro lens. For lighting,I have the 580ExII. I use Think Tank’s small roller for my camera case and have an Induro Cx213 tripod with a Really Right Stuff ballhead. I also use the Monostat Monopod quite a bit. |
