Steve Abbett
bio

I joined BetterPhoto about a year ago to get some unbiased feedback on my photography and maybe some direction on where I wanted to take it. If nothing else, it has been very, very humbling. I am constantly awed by the quality of the images in the BP galleries. I have so much more to learn and BP has inspired me to try and reach that next level.

Naples, Florida, has been my home for the last thirteen years. I moved to Naples from Lake Tahoe, California, where I was raised and lived most of my life. Southwest Florida is a beautiful place but I miss the mountains and diverse geography of the west. My wife and I plan to return there in the not too distant future.

What kind of photography do you most enjoy?
If I had to pick one type of photography I enjoy the most, it would have be landscapes, but everything else is still on the table. I enjoy the challenge of making a good photograph out of things that people walk by everyday without noticing.

How long have you been a photographer?
I have been interested in photography for about twenty years but didn't jump in with both feet until I got my first DSLR camera about three years ago. I now have two passions...cooking and photography - both of which, are works in progress. The ever-evolving technology of camera equipment and image processing software doesn't leave much time for complacency.

What are your photography goals?
My goal, as a photographer, is to produce images that are good enough to inspire others to pick up a camera. I still haven't taken my favorite photograph yet but am looking forward to it!

We celebrate Steve's Masterpiece of the Month award for his image "Miami Skyline" for the March Mission "Care & Creativity". Miami Skyline received 28 nominations - congratulations Steve!

Steve's Wish List

Steve's favorite photographers:
Ansel Adams and Clyde Butcher

Equipment:
As far as my photography bag goes, it's a little light at this time. I have been reluctant to buy more lenses because I hope to move to a full-frame camera soon and will have to get all new lenses to take advantage of the larger sensor. I currently use a Canon EOS 20D camera and carry Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM and Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM lenses along with an assortment of Hoya filters.
