Mary Lou Dickson
bio

I have taken 3 BetterPhoto classes, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have learned a lot from these classes, because of the wonderful feedback/critiques. I really enjoy nature photography: macro, landscape and I have been actively working on improving my wildlife photography. I have always been interested in nature photography since I got my first SLR in 1978. I'm not really sure what first made me pick up a camera, but since then I've never really put it down.

I have always been inspired by the beauty of nature and the natural world. Great photographers like Ansel Adams, John Shaw, and many others have shaped my photographic vision. There was a time when I shelved my "real" photography and used my camera for taking snapshots. All that changed about 3 years ago when, looking to reinvigorate my photography, I joined the Carolinas Nature Photographers Association. By being around people with like minds, I allowed myself to re-connect with my photography and to start sharing it with others, something I had not done for a long time.

My goal had always been to make great photographs, like those that inspired me. However, I realized that it is more important to share my photographs with others. This brought me to BetterPhoto and the opportunity to have my photography critiqued by leading professional photographers.

Mary Lou has been a member of BetterPhoto since February 2008. Here, Mary Lou shares her personal history as a photographer and member of BetterPhoto.com.
