bio

We celebrate Mark's achievement and also congratulate him for receiving a recent invitation to show his work at a local coffee/tea shop. We asked Mark to share a bit more about himself in the following Masterpiece Spotlight:

My name is Mark Orlowski and I live in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Several years ago I was interested in photography, but work always go in the way of pursuing my hobby. I am now able to find the time for photography and the digital world has renewed the passion.

My favorite topics are landscapes, nature and wildlife. I also enjoy the urban photo opportunities. Please visit my web site //http:/www.marks-images.com

What kind of photography do you most enjoy?
Landscape, nature and wildlife. More and more wildlife is a direction that intrigues me. I have always enjoyed the out-of-doors, whether it be photography or fishing and such. Seeing animals in their natural habitat is such a wondrous sight, I am thrilled every time it happens. I additionally enjoy photographing autoand boat racing. Another one of those thrilling and exciting adventures!

How long have you been a photographer?
My photography started in college in the late 60s - early 70s, with a rangefinder camera. I joined the university camera club and learned to develop and print black and white images. The whole aspect of film choice, developer choice, paper choice and son, made it all very interesting. So I have always been attracted to the technical aspect of photography.

What got you started?
Besides the technical aspect of photography, the creation of an image that could convey a feeling is very important. My ability to draw or paint is limited, so photography was the best way to express myself.

What inspires you?
The wonder of it all! Animals in their natural habitat, the creation of landscapes (just how did the mountain get there) and the beauty of flowers, trees and much more. Photography demands that I see all these things in the best light, the best of seasons and in all weather. How much better can it get?

I also find that workshops are very inspiring. Over the years I have had the opportunity to meet and take instruction from great professionals. David Muench, Jack Dykinga, LeRoy Dejolie, Jim Zuckerman, Chip Holsdworth and others. They all have an evident passion for the art and and it is contagious!

What are your photography goals?
In photography my goals are to visit countries like Kenya for a closer look at wildlife.

My plan is to build my skills and help other get involved in this great hobby/profession. Also to become accepted at a stock agency.

How has BetterPhoto helped you attain them?
BP has a great team of professionals. Those that I have taken courses from are so helpful, it's just great! Jim Zuckerman, Tony Sweet and Brenda Tharp are among my favorites. They all provide open and honest communication.
