Nikon D50 Photographers: Discussions

Nikon d50 or Nikon d200

I am a very ameteur photographer trying to improve. I have loved photography most my life but until now have not had a chance to really try. I have the Nikon D50 and have been unimpressed with the quality or my talent, i have seen the photos from d200 and wonder if i am too critical or the 200 would be a better option. what do you all think?

I haven't had the chance to try out the D200 yet. I think the D50 is a great camera myself. I like to think great pictures are created by the photographer regardless of which camera you use. Sure the D200 has a few more megapixels and features but with the D50 you still have complete control manually which is all you really need anyway.

It's not the camera, it's the photographer. Nothing personal, but a good photographer can get a good image from a D50, a D200, D3 or a point and shoot. Since you are admit that you are an amatuer photographer, then I would work more on improving your skills than worrying about the camera at this point.

I agree with Jeremy and Andrew. I am an ameteur also, but accasionally get a great photo.I have had the Nikon d50 for 2 years now and I am still learning new things about the camera every time I use it. Just keep trying new things with you camera and don't be afraid to experiment with different settings. You can always go be to the factory settings.

Before you switch cameras try buying or renting some higher quality lens. I have the D50 the more I learn the happier I am, but I would like to own the D300. With lens you should be able to use on your D50 and the D200, or which ever you end up with.
